Are you involved in a sport that requires explosive bursts
of speed? Powerful jumps? Want to increase your jump safety?
Build bone mineral density?

PLYO IS FOR YOU!

What are plyometrics?
Plyometrics are exercises that take advantage of the stretch-shortening cycle to enhance explosive power. Commonly known as jump training, plyometrics can also be done for the upper body. While running and many types of jumping are plyometric, not all jumps qualify. A jump down from a box followed by a rapid explosion upward into a new jump would be plyometric - during the amortization phase, the critical contributing muscles were stretched slightly, stimulating receptors in the muscles and tendons which intensify the following jump. The whole cycle is quite rapid. A slow descent into a squat followed by a jump would not, by itself, be a plyometric exercise. Vertimax training falls somewhere between a straight plyometric and a strength exercise.

Who can benefit from plyometrics?
Anyone who wants to be faster at sprints, jump higher, develop throwing power, or just be healthier. Sports commonly employing plyometrics in their training include soccer, volleyball, basketball, track and field, gymnastics, golf, baseball, and football. Some plyometric training is very intense and requires a solid strength base, but other forms are less so - for example, skipping is a familiar plyometric activity that even children can do safely.

What does it cost?

Where can I workout?
If you are in the areas of Bexley, Gahanna, New Albany, or Blacklick, I'll bring the equipment to you. I use weight vests, the Vertimax, and a variety of boxes and free weights. Space requirements are minimal. A little yard space or a nearby park and a garage stall is great. I'll discuss your training and space needs when you contact me. In cold weather, schedule sessions at the convenient gym.
Travel to Granville and Grove City may be available by special arrangement. A small travel fee applies to on-site training in these areas.

Is there a discount for siblings?
Yes, siblings of someone already training get a free session for every 8 purchased.

What results can I expect?
If you work hard, you can expect plyometrics to make you faster and more powerful as well as to increase jump height and improve technique. Many athletes add inches to their jump height in an 8-week program.

 How often should I train?
That is an individual decision depending on your other activities. In the off-season, you might train 2-3 times per week, reducing that to once per week during your sport season. It is OK to use a plyo program on the same day you have a regular sport practice, but you should have at least 48 hours between plyo program sessions.

Is it safe?
A well-designed plyometric program is not only safe - it can help prevent injuries. Plyometric exercises can reinforce good jumping and landing mechanics. I use videotape to evaluate jumps and to educate athletes about proper technique. This is especially critical for female athletes who are at a higher risk of knee injury - including ACL injury.

Can parents do plyometrics too?
Definitely! I have trained adults up to age 70 in plyometrics. It enhances balance, strength, power, bone mineral density, confidence - and it's fun!

Can I get more information?
